About

For many centuries, shells and cannonballs tried to break the spirit of the Guelfa tower, but the building remained standing. During the times of Florence's dominance, the tower served not only as a defensive structure but also as a symbol of the supreme power of the conquerors of Pisa. The Second World War also left its mark, soaked in gunpowder and fire, after which Guelfa underwent significant reconstruction.

Today, tourists visit all year round, enchanted by the resilience of the stone walls that have witnessed the marches of armies and the cunning intrigues of courtiers. The arcades and the battlement "crown" of the tower still hide remnants of the brave Maritime Republic's arsenal and the ancient coats of arms of Pisa's noble families. By ascending to the top level of the building, one can see the entire historical center of the city, as if on the palm of their hand.
