About

Several centuries ago, the governor used to convene at the Pretorio palace to resolve the issues of his fellow citizens. Today, the building proudly carries the name of a government establishment and features a civic tower that was completed many years after the laying of the first "palatial" stone.

The Pretorio Palace suffered significantly from bombings during World War II and from an earthquake that damaged the new tower. The facade was fully restored and now encompasses a solid reinforced concrete structure. It was not possible to recreate the original design of the tower, so it was altered, which did not affect its popularity among tourists in any way. The palace building is not left empty and has been repurposed as a library.

Palazzo Pretorio si trova a Pisa, sul Lungarno Galilei, nei pressi delle Logge di Banchi e del Ponte di Mezzo. È sede della biblioteca comunale.
