Metropolis in Madrid
About
As befits any majestic building that simultaneously serves as a symbol of Madrid, the Metropolis garners enthusiastic attention from tourists and city visitors. To erect this world-renowned architectural monument, the capital had to part with seven houses.
When speaking of ideal proportions, eclecticism, and unmatched elegance, the Metropolis immediately comes to mind. Above its ground floor rise four pairs of majestic columns embodying the nation's Commerce, Mining, Industry, and Agriculture. The building's dome, made of black slate specially intended for roofing, demands particular attention. It is adorned with gold leaf and topped with a winged monument of the goddess Nike.
