About

No one has ever come as close to the truth as one of the great thinkers of the past, who called Plaza Mayor the "navel of Spain." Centuries and dynasties came and went, as knights fought in the capital's arena, bulls roared fiercely, and kings swore loyalty to the throne and their spouses amid the roar of the crowd.

Over the long years, Plaza Mayor has remained virtually unchanged with just one exception: instead of knightly tournaments, renowned DJs now compete in the square, entertaining thousands with their music. The bloody executions have been replaced by open-air discos, and coin enthusiasts gather to exchange antique coins. For tourists, Plaza Mayor is primarily about restaurants, countless bars, street performances, and numerous shops and stalls where one can buy antiques and must-have souvenirs to remember the experience.
