About

The Royal Basilica of Saint Francis the Great is considered one of the most architecturally beautiful buildings in the entire Spanish capital. Once, there stood a monastery belonging to an order of the same name, which today is the full-fledged owner of the sanctuary.

The cathedral building is designed in the neoclassical style, featuring a massive dome that is one of the largest in all of Europe. The entrance doors are made of sturdy walnut and are adorned with hand-carved designs. The cathedral includes three chapels that house paintings by renowned artists. Currently, restoration work is underway, and the interior spaces are being used as a crypt for prominent Spanish politicians and public figures.
