The Red Lion 📍407 Walworth Rd, London SE17 2AW 🚇 Elephant & Castle 🍺 £3.80 Carling ❤️ A busy high street pub full of local characters. . Across London in the 1930’s the Truman brewery employed the services of architect Arthur Edward Sewell. Some of the finest looking pubs I’ve been too have been designed by his fair hand, one of his pubs that survives is here at The Red Lion in Walworth. Pub architecture may not be everyone’s cup of tea but just think about how much money, effort and ultimately love went in to creating these social places to sell beer to the masses. Here you can just marvel at this majestic 1930’s built pub, you cannot help but admire the stone work, the art deco accents and the imposing nature of this pub. . This pub is situated on busy Walworth Road and about a fifteen minute walk from Elephant & Castle Tube. On arrival, I starting taking a few photos outside and then about thirty lads cycled by popping wheelies on both sides of the road, it looked cool but it was an accident waiting to happen. . I proceeded in to the pub and ordered a beer, the choice was limited and I decided on a pint of Carling. I’m not really a fan of Carling but at under £4 was fair enough and my pint was ok. This was the busiest pub I had been in all day, maybe that’s down to location but I think more so it’s popularity. I was look for a pew as there was nowhere to sit, so I asked this fella if it was ok to sit at his table. He excepted and I ended up having a great chat with Michael a very informed and knowledgeable chap but unfortunately he was a Liverpool fan 😬. We ended putting the world to rights over a pint, one of the most purest things to do in a pub. . There was a good crowd in on this Saturday afternoon and a great buzz about this proper locals boozer. Everyone was either deep in conversation or fixed on the footy scores on the huge screen in the corner of the pub. There were Lots of characters in here and every now and then roars of laughter would come from different parts of the pub. . The decor was all you want a proper pub to be, a lot of which was original. Dark panelling around the walls, slightly low lit and behold the red carpet which seals the deal for me. This pub featured in the film Dom Hemingway with a scene with Jude Law & Richard E Grant, I put the clip in my bio so you can have a look. . Walworth has proven to be a great place to experience and enjoy locals pubs. The big bonus here is the setting, this is old Trumans boozer is full of character and characters. If you fancy going a bit of piste and finding a pub that reminds you of London pubs of old, The Red Lion is a wonderful example of a proper London pub. . 📊 Information correct on visiting 05/03/22 If you want to see all my pub reviews in one place, head to @londonpubmap on Instagram. 🍻

A vibrant Irish pub on the Walworth Road in Walworth/Elephant & Castle area of London, always sure of a warm welcome here, from the staff who are competent in what they do, to the many customers who frequent the pub on a daily basis. Party's can be catered for here although food is not served on a daily basis, but the pub does have a varied variety of pub snacks etc. There's a lovely selection of beers, wines and spirits that everyone can enjoy, all sports are shown on the many large screen TV's as well as a large projection screen also. You are sure of a warm Irish welcome from Jenny, her family and staff whenever you visit this lovely Irish pub!
