A truly unpretentious local pub. Even the hand dryers in the toilets had dried vomit

🚇 Elephant & Castle 🍺 £5.00 Heineken ❤️ A friendly locals pub on busy Walworth Road. . Today I was out and about in Walworth to explore the pubs of this manor for the first time. First stop was here at The Tankard which is just a short walk from Elephant & Castle Tube. This Mock Tudor pub is situated on a corner plot on Walworth Road and is easy to find. . I arrived just after 12pm and the pub was fairly quiet with about six people in attendance. I ordered a pint and was served by the Irish Guvnor who was chatting to some of the locals who were propping up the bar, then I pulled up a pew and took stock of what this boozer is all about. . This is a one bar pub which is a good size which was clean, tidy and simply decorated. There is wood panelling cladding the walls, a stripped wood floor and leaded windows, there are also a couple of pictures of horses, it wouldn’t be an Irish pub without these. If you like your sport there are three TV’s showing live sport, I managed to catch a bit of the Leicester v Leeds game which was on at the time. . The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly, even though I was a new face in here there was friendly eye contact and you could tell everyone was a local judging by all the interactions. The Guvnor was equally friendly, he was collecting glasses around the tables and took time to chat to people at every table, a true hallmark of a proper landlord and it is rare to see this these days. . The Tankard in Walworth is a proper oldschool Irish pub full of local patrons who are well looked after. It was great to see a proper Guvnor in full flow looking after his punters and showing that personal touch. I felt welcome here even though I’m not a regular, it’s obvious that the Guvnor has set the tone here and has a good crowd. If you fancy a traditional pub experience, you must give The Tankard a go. 📊 Information correct on visiting 21/02/22 If you want to see all my pub reviews in one place, head to @londonpubmap on Instagram. 🍻
