The Syrotkin Revenue House is a beautiful, majestic building constructed in the Neo-Renaissance style. The building and everything associated with it is surrounded by numerous legends and rumors. It was erected in 1899 according to Gilevich's design. However, the revenue house began to incur losses for its owner, Pyotr Grigorievich-Barskiy, even before the construction was completed, forcing him to take a loan secured against the property. Soon it was bought by the merchant Syrotkin, who completed the construction. The house became the tallest building of its time, reaching a height of 42.5 meters. After its reconstruction, the building, which had previously housed a restaurant, gradually fell into decline and was about to be demolished. Fortunately, Kyiv architects, together with Lviv masters, did not allow this to happen and restored the building.
