Bazylika Santa Maria Assunta w Carignano to jeden z najważniejszych przykładów architektury renesansowej w Genui. Została zaprojektowana przez architekta Galeazzo Alessi dla rodziny Sauli, a jej budowa rozpoczęła się w 1552 roku i trwała do 1602 roku, kiedy to ukończono imponującą kopułę. Kościół jest usytuowany na wzgórzu Carignano, co sprawia, że stanowi charakterystyczny punkt widokowy w mieście .  Historia Budowa bazyliki rozpoczęła się w 1552 roku, kiedy to położono kamień węgielny. Pierwsza msza została odprawiona w 1588 roku, a kościół został ukończony w 1602 roku, kiedy to zakończono budowę kopuły .() Architektura Bazylika ma plan w kształcie greckiego krzyża, z centralną kopułą i czterema mniejszymi kopułami w narożnikach.
