The museum was named after the aristocrat Teodoro Correr, who bequeathed to Venice a luxurious palace and with it, a vast collection of paintings and a substantial sum of money for expanding the collection. It was this inherited collection of artworks that later became the core that spurred the formation of the Civic Museums Foundation. The modern Correr Museum is located on the site of the San Gimignano basilica. It includes three thematic collections, the first of which is the art gallery. It features paintings by Italian artists, including Carpaccio's "Two Venetian Women." In the Historical Museum, you can see various coins, documents, weapons, and other objects related to the city's development. The Risorgimento Museum is a collection of engravings, costumes, historical paintings, and exhibits related to the emergence of the Venetian Republic and its unification with Italy.
