Contarini del Bovolo Palace was owned by the Contarini family of aristocrats. Members of this lineage lived in palaces along the Grand Canal, as was customary for their social class. However, Palazzo Contarini del Bovolo is among a category of buildings that are not as magnificent and pompous. It was situated in a dark alley near Piazza San Marco. To somewhat compensate for the unfortunate location of the building, an architect added a spiral staircase in the form of a tower with spiral arcades, leading to a Gothic tower. Visually, the spiral flights resemble snake skin, which is why the palace got the nickname "Snake House". The attention is drawn to two internal courtyards and wells with canopies at the base of the tower. Most of these canopies are much older than the palace itself, and they were organically incorporated into its architecture during construction.

A cheaper way and without queues to look at the Venice from above than tower in San Marco square. Although the tower is not so high and might dissapoint some people. There is also a gallery inside which visit is included in the price.
