Immediately fell in love with the dim sum style concept. Highlights: Trout dip: I just love fish dips and this was the right smokiness and fishiness. Homemade chips were also the perfect vessel for the dip Fried pork belly ohhhh my. Say less. Fragrant, crispy, a little peppery. Pork ribs in that passionfruit chili sauce what the heck!!! Koshihikari rice: you need to be strategic with each bite because there are quite a few ingredients in here and the best bite is one with a little of each (rice, clam, pork, mushroom). Got a little emotional once I took that bite. So good. While there were a few misses for me, each dish was so small that these mishaps didn’t bring down the experience, and only one good dishes lingered in my mind. Service was amazing, the carts added to the ambiance. Loved it!

I love bringing friends and family here so they can experience State Bird, and I’ve been here four times. If you’ve ever been to a dim sum place, it’s a similar concept where food is rolled around on carts, except instead of dumplings, you’ll find things like oysters, garlic bread with burrata, and financiers with duck liver mousse. That’s the fun of it—you get a surprise dish or two to add to the table. There’s also a regular menu for larger plates, and the smaller items come around on the carts. It’s a really fun dining experience, overall. The staff are always friendly and attentive without being overbearing. I’ve had to book weeks in advance each time, so I definitely recommend planning ahead. Pro tip from my last visit: if you arrive early, you can grab drinks next door at The Progress. They’ll let you bring your wine or beer over to State Bird once your table’s ready.
