About half a century ago, the aviation museum was known as a young aviators' club, gathering only enthusiasts and fans around it. Today, it stands as one of the largest of its kind in Europe, with collections that a small country with limited military potential would envy.

The Riga Aviation Museum is not only about military and civil airplanes, helicopters, and gliders but also includes ground equipment, ranging from fire trucks to vehicles that de-ice runways. It is noteworthy that the museum itself is located in a symbolic place - on the territory of the Riga Airport. It can be reached by taxi or bus - probably, the only instance in history where a city airport-museum is within walking distance for everyone interested.

Most stuff is not in a good shape, but still very interesting to see aircraft and trucks from the Soviet era in a very 'used' condition. Unfortunately there's nothing else to do there, no coffee, nothing to buy. It feels more like a junkyard lost in time - in a good way.

Museon portilta soitetaan portin kyltissä näkyvään numeroon ja portti tullaan avaamaan. Museossa käy vain käteinen. Museossa sijaitsi hujan hajan kattava kokoelma erilaisia erityisesti neuvostoliittolaisia koneita. Kokemus oli erittäin mielenkiintoinen. Lisäksi alueella oli kaikenlaista muuta lentokoneisiin ja lentokenttiin liittyvää romua. Alueelle oli heitetty jostain syystä myös vanhoja leluja. Parkkipaikka löytyy 100 metriä museolta lentokentälle päin lentokoneiden bongauspaikan vieressä. Museossa vierailun jälkeen hoitu samalla myös lentokoneiden bongailu.
