Ss. Cyril and Methodius Cathedral in Prague
About
Ss. Cyril and Methodius Cathedral stands as a striking example of Baroque architecture in Prague, the brainchild of acclaimed architect Kilian Ignaz Dientzenhofer. The cathedral, completed in 1736, is much more than a place of worship; it's a historical landmark steeped in a powerful narrative from World War II.
Visitors are drawn to its poignant memorial dedicated to the brave Czech paratroopers who sought refuge here after their bold attack on Nazi leader Reinhard Heydrich. The church crypt houses a museum that vividly chronicles this significant chapter in history, making it an essential stop for those intrigued by wartime bravery and resilience.
This historic site, renamed St. Cyril and St. Methodius Cathedral in 1935, enjoys a high average rating of 4.7 on Google, attesting to the appreciation and reverence of its visitors. With free entrance, it is an inviting destination for history enthusiasts and anyone looking to explore Prague's rich cultural tapestry.
