Bastille Square has long since ceased to resemble that ominous place where political prisoners were held for years. The prison was demolished during the French Revolution, which is also when the square was formed. Today, it is one of the cultural centers of the city, where both tourists and Parisians love to stroll. The square often serves as a venue for concerts, festive processions, and political demonstrations. It is also frequently referred to as a crossroads, as dozens of Parisian streets and alleys meet and diverge again here.
