About

The Luxembourg Palace is a magnificent example of Renaissance and Baroque architecture, as well as a renowned historical monument. From the very beginning of its foundation, the palace served as a refuge for the nobility and a venue for governmental meetings. After its construction, it was the residence of Maria de' Medici and her descendants. During World War II, the building was occupied by German generals to hold meetings. After the liberation of France, the Luxembourg Palace was left vacant for some time before it was designated as the seat of the Senate.
