About

The Palais Royal has an amazing history. It acquired its current appearance after the third reconstruction, which took place in 1873. Originally, the mansion of the Ange family was located on the palace grounds, which was purchased by Cardinal Richelieu in his time. Wishing to build the house of his dreams, he designed a grand palace, which for a long time was considered the most luxurious in Paris and was known as the Palais Cardinal. After the cardinal's death, the building passed to Louis XIII, and after his death - to Anne of Austria. It was then that the mansion got its new name of Palais Royal - the royal palace. The times of the Paris Commune left nothing but ruins in its place. Only with the return of peacetime was the palace restored and placed under the management of the highest state authorities.
