Lychakiv Cemetery covers an area of 40 hectares and has the status of a historical and cultural museum-reserve. The cemetery began its operations in 1786, while the oldest tombstone dates back to 1675.

Many famous and wealthy individuals of the city rest within the Lychakiv Cemetery. It contains over 5000 tombs, about 500 sculptural monuments, and 2000 crypts, along with 24 chapels and 5 memorials. Each of these art pieces is a unique representation of the spirit of history and the individual.

The largest crypt on the Lychakiv Cemetery is that of the Barchevsky family - its area is about 220 m2. The last member of this family bequeathed all remaining fortune to the development of science and charity. Here also rest the souls of such outstanding personalities as I. Franko, M. Shashkevich, S. Krushelnytska, V. Ivasyuk.
