The interior deserves a solid 5 – the decor is elaborate and full of character. The location is convenient, just steps away from both the metro and the train station. It clearly attracts a loyal local crowd; by the end of the evening the place was packed, and it felt like the entire Areeiro neighbourhood mafia was holding court upstairs – all dressed in identical black suits and white shirts. The chef and kitchen staff wear amusing old-fashioned hats, reminiscent of a vintage film, which adds charm. A handwritten wine list and playful chalkboard menus add a personal and nostalgic touch. As for the food… it’s standard Portuguese fare, heavy on the olive oil. We tried the Açorda – a bread-based dish that’s definitely an acquired taste; the Bacalhau à Lagareiro was swimming in olive oil, along with potatoes and stewed greens; the octopus salad was far too vinegary for our liking, tasting more like Korean-style pickled salads; and the marinated mushrooms were acceptable. Would we return? Probably not.
