Google top 10 bifanas in Lisbon and you will probably not find this one on the list, which is a real travesty if you ask me! Situated down a quiet dead-end alley just off the hustle and bustle of Mouraria, there's nothing but a tiny hand painted sign to attract your attention if you look down this shabby looking alley. What this hole in the wall joint lacks in polish and swank however, is more than made up for by the wonderfully tasty bifanas they serve at a very wallet friendly price. That there was a constant stream of locals dining shoulder to shoulder at the counter (though there are a few tables in an adjacent salon) is a testament in itself. While there's not much separating all the bifanas we had (and we had a lot mind you), we unanimously agreed that this was our favorite. Can't quite put my finger on why that is other than to say it was definitely the 'juiciest'. The bottom half of the bun was almost soaked through with the pork drippings, like it had been dipped in the stewing pork itself to add extra panache in taste. The marinate is not overdone, letting the tenderness and natural flavors of the pork speak for itself. Sometimes, you just have to ignore Google ratings and just go with your nose and taste buds !
