Pałac Niepodległości to bardzo ważne miejsce dla Portugalczyków. To właśnie tutaj przygotowany został spisek, który pozwolił na odzyskanie przez Portugalię niepodległości i przerwanie okupacji hiszpańskiej. Pałac pochodzi z XVI wieku. Na uwagę zasługują dwa ogromne kuchenne kominy i XVIII wieczne panele azulejos. W pałacu mieści się m.in. dobra restauracja.
