It is a former monastery of the Order of Saint Jerome near the Tagus river. It is a prominent example of the late Portuguese Gothic Manueline style of architecture. Important personalities and royalty are buried here. The queues to see this place are miles long. Better book tickets ahead. The place is in lovely area with park, river nearby. Important to go early to avoid the heat in warmer months. Level terrain, lots of walking. Wear comfy shoes, take water, wear hat, sunscreen. Hard to find parking (best take public transport). Toilets nearby
