About

Independence Square is situated between nine streets and is the center of Kyiv. This place has a rich history, yet it only acquired its current appearance at the beginning of the 21st century. The major reconstruction of the square began in 2001. It was during this time that new architectural forms appeared on its territory. In the center of the square stands a white column with a female figure on top, symbolizing the independence of Ukraine. Where the Lyadski Gates once were, now stands a new monument - gates topped by a figure of Kyiv's patron. Perhaps, one of the most unusual features is the large shopping center operating beneath the square!
