About

Tucked away near Sultanahmet, the Binbirdirek Cistern is an intriguing slice of Byzantine history in Istanbul. This 4th-century marvel, smaller yet equally beautiful compared to the famous Basilica Cistern, offers a cool respite with a serene atmosphere. With its half-price entry and impressive charm, it's perfect for families and those looking to avoid the bustling crowds. The unique art installation, featuring changing colored lights, adds a modern twist to the ancient setting. Historically, it served as a vital storage facility and workshop during the Byzantine and Ottoman periods, making it a fascinating and less touristy spot to explore.

I fully recommend this cystern I was there around 13:00 at Sunday and I was here alone. It is beautiful and the enterance fee for non turkish tourist is only 10€ with is nothing compare to Basilica cystern enterance fee.
