Construction of the television tower in Prague began in 1985, during the socialist era. Due to its heavy, daunting appearance, it immediately fell out of favor with many local residents. They were also displeased that the authorities decided to sacrifice a part of the old Jewish cemetery for the construction of the tower. To somehow mitigate the negativity, in 2000, sculptor David ČernÝ decided to temporarily enhance the tasteless structure with figures of crawling babies. The idea was so well-received by the city's inhabitants that they demanded the figures be left there permanently.

Today, the television tower on Žižkov Hill not only functions as a repeater and meteorological observatory but also houses a restaurant at the 63-meter level, and a viewing platform forty meters higher, accessible by a high-speed elevator.

Krásný vyhled na Prahu; skvělá restaurace i denní kavárna. Ale Observatoř zastaralá a ve špatném stavu, jak kdyby se o to nikdo nestaral, smrdí tam odpad nebo zatuchlina. Absence větší reklamy na restauraci a kavárnu (dole u recepce). Pokud to člověk neví, vůbec to nezjistí. Cena za vstup nahoru mi přijde přehnaná.

Vale la pena visitare. Miglior panorama, so cosa dire, perché abbiamo visitato anche torre Petrin, casa danzante e tutti altri in giardini e castelli. Questo miglior. Unica cosa: non accettano le carte ed euro. Ma si può comprare al posto con krone oppure online. Staff vi aiuteranno. Il posto è più tranquillo e non così affollato come per esempio la torre Petrin e la vista più bella.
