From the first day of its existence, Vysehrad has been shrouded in legends. The most widespread legend tells that the entire city complex, with fortress walls, was built in the 10th century by Prince Přemysl at the behest of his wife Libuše.

Not long after, in 1085, the Bohemian prince Vratislav II desired to erect a church on the mountainous height, one to rival the grandeur of St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican. He had to receive a blessing from the Pope himself for this endeavor.

Today, little remains of the fortress, but the basilica named after Saints Peter and Paul still exists, although it has been modified, reconstructed, and added to multiple times.

Besides this sacred site, tourists in Vysehrad can stroll through a beautiful shaded park, admire the calm waters of the Vltava River from a bridge, and visit the Vysehrad Cemetery, where famous Czech political and cultural figures are buried under monuments that could be compared to the works of medieval masons.

Должен отметить, что ожидал несколько большего от экскурсии по Вышеграду. Однако время все-таки провел неплохо. Понравилось, что здесь мало туристов. Расположенная на территории базилика впечатлила как своей архитектурой, так и великолепным внутренним убранством, особенно росписями. А еще безумно понравилась панорама на реку Влтаву, открывающаяся с моста. В принципе, в Вышеграде можно хорошо провести время и отдохнуть от городского шума.

Open area, no Tickets needed beside special exhibitions and the peter&paul church. Cemetry holds some famous czech people, be ready to hike up the hill before visiting anything. Feels like it's done for the czech ppl mostly, so don't expect too many signs or translations anywhere.
