Über

The monastery was founded in 1347 by the order of Charles IV. Throughout its existence, the monastery belonged to the monks of the Order of St. Benedict. Initially, it was inhabited by Croatian monks, followed by Spanish, and then German monks. Each new community brought something to the monastery's appearance, transforming it from Gothic to Baroque, and from Baroque back to Neo-Gothic style. It houses an extensive collection of scenes from the Old and New Testaments, which emerged in the 14th century.

At the end of World War II, the monastery was severely damaged due to bombing raids by the Allied forces.

The full restoration of the Emmaus Monastery was only completed in 2003, with its distinctive feature - a spire in the shape of two wings, erected on the site of the bomb damage, emerging in the post-war period.
