The Hôtel des Invalides is one of the landmarks of Paris, its creation owed to the Sun King, Louis XIV. The reason for the building's construction was the excessive filling of the city streets with beggars and homeless among the former military servicemen, whose pensions did not allow them to peacefully live out their lives in their own homes. At the same time, there was propaganda promoting the army, thereby raising its prestige in the eyes of ordinary citizens. The grandeur of this architectural project is astonishing even today. After Napoleon's burial here, the Hôtel des Invalides became firmly associated with his name, and the building itself gained a more presentable appearance. Today, the building houses four museums, and one of the wings still serves its original purpose - it is home to World War II veterans and members of the Resistance.
