A four-legged animal caught unawares in the very heart of Brussels adds to the "duet" of the famous "peeing" monuments of a boy and a girl, which have become the unofficial symbols of the Belgian capital. The "Peeing Dog" statue perfectly matches the "original" in size, making it easy to mistake for a real stray dog in the evening.

The sculpture appeared at the intersection of two main Brussels streets relatively recently - only in the year 2000. Its creator, Tom Franzen, intended it as a way to demonstrate the importance of merging different cultures into one. The "Peeing Dog" is made of bronze, and therefore is protected by the city from vandals who have attempted to steal the monument on several occasions.
