Start your exploration of the Welsh capital with a visit to the Norman Keep in Cardiff Castle. From the castle, take the Aquabus to the city center via the bay. Mermaid Quay waterfront is full of interesting sights. Pay attention to the historic Ship Weather Vane building. Nearby is the futuristic Techniquest science center, which houses a planetarium, science exhibitions, and interactive shows. Along the docks, you'll find several intriguing art pieces: the Wife on the Ocean Wave sculpture, Rugby Players statue, Ianto's Shrine memorial, Cargoes Poem granite slabs, and Celtic Ring by Harvey Hood.

The spacious Roald Dahl Plass features attractions and a Ferris wheel. Also nearby are dozens of restaurants, a shopping center, the Wales Millennium Centre with a theater, the BBC orchestra studio, and the Pierhead Building museum. The new Welsh government building, Sinedd, has a unique appearance with a huge wooden canopy over the staircase. Continue your stroll over the Origami Bridge to the BBC Roath Lock Studios pavilions.

Next to the city hall are the National Museum and Art Gallery, which offer free admission. Not far from the center, you'll find one of Britain's oldest churches, Llandaff Cathedral. Popular walks include the Taff Trail, starting from the central waterfront and stretching 55 miles to the town of Brecon. You can find famous Welsh cakes at Cardiff Market.
