About

The Komische Oper is not only the smallest theater but also one of the best opera houses in the German capital. Around the world, the Komische Oper is known for its original, and often unconventional, performances, which are performed solely in German.

It is located in the building of the former Metropol Theater, which is an architectural monument of the 20th century and is protected by the state. Unfortunately, its beautiful facade was destroyed during the battles for the liberation of Berlin, and the building itself was severely damaged. However, the building was later completely restored, and now the magnificent opera hall can accommodate 1,270 people simultaneously.

The Komische Oper is a place where theatrical actions whimsically intertwine with musical accompaniment. The theater's company includes vocalists who perform works by contemporary authors as well as classics.
