About

The Temple of the Sacred Heart is often called the Mecca of Barcelona due to its popularity and its ability to influence the minds of hundreds of thousands of believers who flock here in search of grace and peace. The shrine can be seen from almost anywhere in Spain thanks to its special location at the top of Mount Tibidabo.

The idea to build a church at an altitude of 518 meters above sea level belongs to a Catholic missionary who previously initiated the construction of a similar temple in Rome. Interestingly, shortly before the first stone of the crypt and basilica was laid, the large area of the Tibidabo massif was planned to be developed with entertainment venues. The main "attraction" of the church is a huge statue of Christ with all-forgiving arms. Flanking the central staircase are four statues of the apostles, each depicted with a different animal.
