Bamberg

The city of canals and hills in northern Bavaria attracts tourists with the architecture of its Old Town. Narrow streets with medieval residential houses, shops, and cathedrals are a UNESCO World Heritage site. Appreciate the austere Romanesque style of the city's main cathedral from the 16th century. Inside the cathedral, you can find the legendary Knight atop a column. Behind the cathedral is the Old Court Hall, which hosts exhibitions from the Historical Museum. Among the popular routes in the Altstadt is the Sculpture Trail.

The symbol of the city is the Old Town Hall on an artificial island, built on the boundary between the bishop's land and the trading town. Approach the façade of the Town Hall via the bridge to admire the wonderful frescoes. On the northern side of the river, you'll find the charming fishermen's district of half-timbered houses called Klein Venedig. The Church of Our Lady on top of the hill is called Obere Pfarre by the locals, and it is a true masterpiece of Gothic architecture.

It's worth visiting the New Residence with a guide: inside the massive palace are 40 luxurious rooms with frescoes, paintings, and sculptures. Be sure to visit the Rose Garden of the Residence and enjoy the views of Bamberg.

Adult tourists should check out the Franconian Brewery Museum, located in an ancient Benedictine monastery. And don't forget to try Bamberg's smoked beer.
