About

The Yivli Minaret emerged in Antalya in the thirteenth century and today stands as one of the earliest examples of Islamic architecture throughout the province. Thanks to its distinctive and memorable shape, the minaret can easily be seen from almost any point in the city.

The Yivli structure is composed of eight semi-cylinders, which gives it an appearance as if it's literally sliced by elongated lines. Interestingly, the name 'Yivli' translates to 'fluted' in Russian, fully justifying the appearance of the minaret, which, for unknown reasons, lacks an accompanying mosque. Access to the inside of the minaret is possible from the north side of the building, navigating a narrow spiral staircase of ninety steps. Historians unanimously agree that there originally were 99 steps - exactly the number of names of God in Islam.
