The cathedral, built in honor of the great John the Baptist, is the first of its kind in the Gothic style to appear on the territory of Poland. The framework, miraculously surviving after World War II, became the foundation for the future reconstruction of the entire temple. The building's spires face west, in accordance with Catholic canons. The landmark is interesting for its history: a large number of churches were built on the site of the current cathedral, each of which was destroyed.
