About

The Jewish Community Museum is located in the Ghetto Nuovo square. As a result of a series of laws enacted by the Council of the Venetian Republic in the 15th century, the first ghetto in Europe was established. Here, among the multi-story buildings, lie five synagogues. It is rare to find a synagogue that is situated on the top floor of a high-rise building and has a dome. One of them, the Scuola Grande Tedesca (Great German Synagogue), houses the Jewish community museum. Its collection includes exhibits reflecting the history and culture of Jews living in Venice. The collection features silverware used in religious ceremonies, manuscripts containing ancient Jewish law, and textiles. Tourists can join a guided tour or explore the ancient streets of the former ghetto on their own, visit local shops, and dine in a kosher restaurant.
