Had a wonderful anniversary dinner here - it was a rare night out for us with a 6mo old baby, and Chef Alex and the staff made it special. Thanks so much for the excellent omakase with your unique fermentation touch and for being so accommodating. We will remember it well!

I went on Tuesday evening, and it wasn’t crowded. The host and chef were very hospitable. Their dedication to their food and service gave me a fantastic experience! I had the omakase experience at the bar, and loved seeing the chef cut fresh fish to serve on my plate. The menu was a perfect balance of authentic nigiri/sashimi and dishes that showed off the restaurants creativity and style. Everything was delicious. I would definitely come back again!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A World-Class Omakase Experience — Deserving of a Michelin Star I had the incredible pleasure of dining at Sushi Hakko today with my 17-year-old daughter, and we were completely blown away. Chef Alex, the owner of the restaurant, was personally behind the counter preparing our 19-course omakase tasting menu — and every single dish was a masterclass in flavor, balance, and craftsmanship. From the first bite, it was clear that Chef Alex isn’t just serving sushi — he’s telling a story. Every piece was served over perfectly warm rice, seasoned precisely to highlight each fish. The attention to tradition was striking: for example, the miso black cod was prepared using a 16th-century Japanese recipe. Unlike the sweeter versions popularized by Nobu, this one had a deeper, more nuanced umami profile — thanks in part to the two-year fermented miso he uses. Honestly, it was even better than the version at Nobu. Standout dishes? Too many to name, but the Toro Tartare with caviar and uni on a rice cracker was truly out of this world — and came with a hand-drawn visual design created by Chef Alex himself. That artistic touch elevated the dish even further. The Uni, O-Toro, and Kinmedai were exceptional, and the final panna cotta was unexpectedly one of the best I’ve ever had — smooth, delicate, and beautifully balanced. Chef Alex is clearly a perfectionist and an artist. It shows not only in the food but in the way the entire experience is orchestrated. Sushi Hakko deserves a Michelin star — not just for the food, but for the heart, history, and vision behind it. If you’re looking for a memorable, elevated sushi experience in San Francisco — this is the place.
