About

Exactly 640 meters above sea level separate Capuchin Mountain and the flat area near the Salzach River promenade, located opposite the Salzburg Museum. The summit is adorned with an ancient monastery of the Capuchin monks, which is still operational today. Tourists are not allowed onto the monastery grounds, but they are permitted to visit the church, where they can frequently hear the resonant voice of the abbot and the sounds of the copper organ. Capuchin Mountain is also notable for being just a few steps away from Stefan Zweig's house, as well as a partially destroyed wall leading to the fortress with the Franz Schloss drawbridge system. You can ascend the mountain either by staircase or by a serpentine path winding through the trees on the opposite side of the hill.
