Cette fontaine a ete commande par la compagnie des eaux de porto en 1886 et construite par Conçue par le sculpteur français Charles Lebourg. L'objectif a cette époque était d'améliorer l’accès à l’eau potable dans ce quartier de porto. Les lions en bronze sont orientés vers les 4 points cardinaux. Chaque lions arbore un bouclier avec les armoiries de porto. Ces armoiries represente la résilience de ville.
