About

The Botanical Garden, spanning three hectares, is part of the structure of the University of Pisa and holds the title of the oldest garden in the world. Since the distant year of 1544, it has been gathering a collection of various natural objects, boasts its own library, and even has a full gallery of portraits of the institution's directors.

Today, the botanical garden is divided into sections with flower beds, ponds, and greenhouses. Both exotic and local plants are found in the greenhouses and under the open sky, cared for by trained staff. Tourists particularly love the arboretum with its unusual trees, beside which one simply wants to stop and be silent.
