About

Located in a monastery building on the banks of the Arno River, the San Matteo Museum attracts not only tourists but also pilgrims. The museum's collection features hundreds of works by Pisan and Tuscan masters, from ceramics to paintings and sculptures. Additionally, it houses a unique "collection" of ancient wooden crosses from the twelfth century, called "Croci Dipinte."

The interior of the San Matteo Museum is traditionally designed in Romanesque style, and the entire open space is literally filled with various products and artifacts. Special attention should be given to the Islamic ceramic elements - "crescents and stars," as the locals call them, are the direct descendants of the era when the Republic was actively trading with North African countries.

If aged under 25, there is a €2 reduced price ticket as listed in their website, but you have to ask for it at the desk. Nice little museum to kill and hour of time.
