About

The Champ de Mars has a fascinating and captivating history. Its fame is not only due to its proximity to the main Parisian attraction. Since its opening to the public in 1780, it has regularly hosted meetings, picnics, and other events. In particular, it was from here that one of the first manned hot air balloons took off. Later, there was an attempt to turn it into a racecourse, but fortunately, the idea did not take hold.
