The year of the creation of the Odessa Zoo is considered to be 1922 - it was then, on September 23, that all legal documents were formalized. However, it only became accessible to its first visitors 16 years later.

The zoo has faced numerous challenges during its existence, but the residents of Odessa have always come to its rescue. Therefore, it is not surprising that many city dwellers continue to visit not only to admire the exotic fauna but also to participate in the volunteer clean-up days on Saturdays and Sundays, organized by the zoo management.

A testimony of the zoo workers' love for their animals and their care is the numerous offspring. For instance, a pair of Indian elephants residing here has already produced three calves.

The Odessa Zoo has an aqua-terrarium with a separate entrance from Novoshepnoy Row, 25, and the only facility in the Ukrainian state that breeds owls and birds of prey.

Ужас! Животные худые,их держат в ужасных вонючих клетках,которые вообще не чистят походу. Убило то,что в клетках крысы, которые могут беспрепятственно вылезать к посетителям! В общем,поход в зоопарк вызвал отвращение и жалость к бедным зверям.

Побывал здесь всего раз и особого впечатления на меня не произвел. Одесский зоопарк довольно небольшой и видно, что нуждается в деньгах. Тем не менее, здесь более-менее чисто и если прийти сюда с детьми, те будут рады увидеть разных животных. Надеюсь, что в ближайшее время зоопарк изменится в лучшую сторону.
