About

The building of the Odessa State Regional Philharmonic, constructed in 1898, was originally designed as a merchant trading exchange. Its creation was entrusted to two renowned masters, V. Prohaska and A. Bernardazzi. However, just forty years later, a concert hall and the philharmonic administration had firmly established themselves here.

The architecture of the building, officially recognized as a historical monument, is executed in the spirit of Venetian Gothic with the addition of Renaissance elements. Its facade, facing Pushkinskaya and Politsayskaya streets, is clad in multi-colored terracotta tiles. The windows of the philharmonic are decorated with marble columns and bright stained glass. Inside, the structure is adorned with numerous paintings by artists N. Karazin and Cassioli.

The external part of the main entrance is presented as a 21-meter deep loggia, while the interior is decorated with a white marble staircase, flanked by columns on both sides.

Visitors to the Odessa Philharmonic will find particularly interesting the ceiling above the entrance, which features a celestial vault with the 12 signs of the Zodiac. The total area of the main hall is 910 sq.m, with a height of 12 meters.
