About

Parque del Oeste is hemmed in on three sides by the La Coruña highway, the well-known Moncloa district, and the University City. It's astonishing that not so long ago, this entire park area was a massive landfill where waste from all over the capital was brought in.

The initiative to get rid of the mountains of trash and replace them with a verdant park landscape came from the mayor of Madrid, who governed the capital in the early twentieth century. Today, Parque del Oeste boasts the unique "Rose Alley," which hosts an annual international rose exhibition featuring varieties and colors from around the world. You can also find the famous Temple of Debod within the park.
