About

St. Mary's Church, a remarkable gem in Lübeck's historic core, captivates visitors with its grand scale and stunning architectural features. This awe-inspiring structure, with its frescoed walls and brick flying buttresses, stands as both a testament to the resilience and artistry of past generations. Despite suffering damage during World War II, the church was lovingly reconstructed and completed by 1980, preserving its status as a beloved landmark among Lübeck's five historic churches.

Visitors are greeted by a unique blend of old and new, including an eye-catching modern art sculpture. The interior is filled with treasures ranging from quirky sculptures to intricate frescoes and fascinating historical artifacts. One highlight is the wood-framed 24-hour clock and a stone plaque that commemorates Johann Sebastian Bach's 1705 performance. Historical exhibits outline the church's storied past, offering insights into its reconstruction journey.

An entry fee of 4 euros grants access to this captivating experience, and visitors frequently praise it for being well worth the cost. For those interested in history, art, and architecture, St. Mary's Church is a must-see destination that provides both serenity and enrichment.

La personne de l accueil nous as très gentiment donné des explications en français. L eglise a été en partie détruite par des bombardements en 1942 puis reconstruire et rénovée. Il est très interessant de visiter l interieur
