Hamburg

Before exploring the Old Town, stroll through the Alsterarkaden - an arcade gallery with shops. From this side of the canal, there is a panoramic view of the Town Hall towers and St. Peter's Church. Take a walk through the Town Hall and Cathedral squares; visit St. Jacob's Church. Admire the Chilehaus building, shaped like an ocean liner. A magnificent view of the city can be enjoyed from the roof of the Mahnmal St. Nikolai (there's an elevator).

The former warehouse district, Speicherstadt, is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The warehouse buildings house numerous museums: art, maritime, automotive, spice; and the miniature Wonderland. The customs buildings, boiler house, and lighthouse have been preserved. Walk to the edge of the peninsula to enjoy the harbor panorama and the Elbphilharmonie building (locals call it Elphi). It is the tallest building in the city, with an observation deck on the top.

Visit the St. Pauli district: the night market and bars operate on Spielbudenplatz, and festivals and a Christmas market are held here. There are numerous concert halls and nightclubs on the neighboring streets. Boats for harbor tours depart from the Landungsbrücken pier.

The St. Georg district is a symbol of Hamburg's LGBT community. In the Sternschanze neighborhoods, you'll find vintage shops and contemporary art galleries. The most famous flea market is Flohschanze.
