La chiesa di San Matteo è un edificio religioso del centro storico di Genova, situato in Piazza San Matteo, nel quartiere del Molo. Non lontano dalla famosa Piazza de Ferrari, percorrendo la salita di San Matteo potrete giungere nell’omonima piazza e godere la visita di questo piccolo gioiello di Genova. L’esterno della Chiesa si presenta con una facciata a strisce bianche e nere. L’interno invece è costituito da una navata centrale, separata da quelle laterali da colonne. Nella chiesa, all’interno della cripta sotterranea, si trovano anche le tombe di altri esponenti della famiglia Doria. Dalla piazza, attraverso un arco sul lato sinistro della Chiesa, si accede al chiostro, racchiuso tra le facciate delle case adiacenti e di forma quadrangolare. Al centro sorge un piccolo pozzo. Lungo le pareti del loggiato possiamo notare la presenza di numerose lapidi sepolcrali della famiglia Doria. Se siete a passeggio per i famosi carruggi di Genova non potete non vistare quest’abazia gotica del XII secolo.
