Great pub.. amazing staff, travelled from Chesham Chiltern Hills as West Ham were playing Aston Villa at home. Proper Hammers boozer, Other customers extremely friendly.. a nostalgic visit for me as my old man now passed away had Butcher's shops on the Barking Rd behind the South Stand of the Boleyn Ground and opposite The Forest Gate Hotel Godwin Rd. My old man used to drink here in the 60s and earlier at the previous site on the junction of Victoria Road. Great pub 👌 ⚒️⚒️⚒️

🚇 Plaistow 🍺 £5.00 Carlsberg A Proper Flat Roof Pub. The Victoria Tavern is located on busy Plaistow High Street in Plaistow, Newham. The nearest Tube is Plaistow, it’s a three minute walk to get here. The original Victoria Tavern was built in 1871 and was located close to the site of the existing building. Plaistow was heavily damaged during the Blitz in the Second World War, the pub like much of the area was rebuilt in the 1960’s. This is a simply decorated no frills two bar pub. As you enter, the main bar is on the right with a smaller bar to the left. The main bar has a pool table, dart board, a large TV and an orking great speaker. The seating is a mismatch of blue chairs around basic tables which do the job. The servery has a solid wood counter with the name of the pub varnished in to it. At the front of the pub is a covered area with plenty of tables and chairs. The beer line up was straightforward and included Guinness but no cask ale due to lack of demand. I decided on a pint of Carlsberg, my pint was well kept, hit the spot and only cost a fiver. This is a a Wet-Led pub that doesn’t serve food. We arrived just before 1pm on a Friday lunchtime back in February. There was a local propping up the bar and some dance tunes playing in the background. We got talking to the Landlady who was such a lovely person. She was telling us about how @westham moving has massively impacted her business. She also mentioned that she will arrange Taxis from her pub right to the gate at the stadium if punters are drinking in her pub on match days. This pub is currently under the threat of demolition due to planning permission to build seven flats and two townhouses. The application was refused on the grounds that it was “unneighbourly” but the developers will definitely try again. I left the Victoria Tavern with a tinge of sadness. I’m not a West Ham fan but I do feel for a Landlady that is doing everything she can to keep her pub going. The Victoria Tavern will not be everyone’s cup of tea but is worth visiting to support this once thriving pub. ℹ️ Info correct on visiting 23.02.24
