Lovely local drinking spot with great music and vibes! Family fun to be had and pleasant location. Not too bad on the pocket and there's music, pool and atmosphere!

🚇 Canning Town 🍺 £4.35 Cruzcampo A Large Ex Truman’s Watering Hole. The Red House is located on Barking Road at the southern end of Plaistow. The nearest Tube is Canning Town, it’s a fifteen minute walk to get here. This pub dates back to 1860 when the area was first built up. In the late 19th century the Dock Workers Union used the upstairs meeting room which lead to the pub being referred to as the Red House which later became its official name. The pub was rebuilt in the interwar years by Trumans. The pub closed in 2019 and reopened November 2022. This is a spacious one bar pub which has a pool room at the back. Unfortunately there is no trace of the original 1930’s fixtures by Trumans. The decor here is simple with battleship grey walls, traditional tables and chairs, however the red sparkling servery added a bit of pizzazz. There are two pool tables, a stage for DJ nights and events plus a few large screens dotted around the bar. The beer selection was a full of mainstream brands and familiar favourites but no cask. I decided on a Cruzcampo, my pint was excellent and cost only £4.35 which is the lowest price I’ve ever paid for this lager. This pub doesn’t serve food. I arrived just before 2pm on a Saturday afternoon in September. The pub was quiet with only one other punter in attendance. To break the silence there was cricket on the TV, so I decided to watch a bit of that while I quaffed my pint. The service was great, the chap who served me was very friendly and welcoming. I left the Red House with mixed emotions. This Grand pub is a shell of its former self with no trace from its past except the ghost signs on the side of the pub. Yes it’s friendly, yes it’s cheap but for me it lacked a bit of soul. ℹ️ Info correct on visiting 02.09.23
